The Journey of Blogging and the benefits

If you know anything about blogging, you know it’s an industry that is constantly in flux. Strategies that work one day might not work the next, and everything seems to be at the whims of Google’s algorithm. There’s a good reason behind it, though, and it’s worth knowing the state of blogging in 2021 before you decide how you want to proceed for the year.

Google has an important role to play in filtering and presenting content to readers. 53.3% of blog traffic comes from organic searches, while only 15% comes from paid advertising. The rest comes from direct traffic, social referrals, and other sources of traffic that may not be tracked, or tracked accurately.

While it might not seem like “a little over half” of all traffic coming from search is important, it’s astonishing to realize just how huge the volume of traffic increases. Over 21 billion articles are read on WordPress sites alone every single month. If half of all of that traffic comes from Google search (and other search engines too, of course), that’s an insane number of throughputs.

There’s content to match, as well. WordPress as a platform sees over 70 million new blog posts published every month. To put that into perspective, that’s around 27 new posts every second. Every second! It’s incredible how much content is being published, indexed, sorted, filtered, categorized, and served up to willing audiences every single day.

Blogging is a challenge, that’s for sure. With so much content being published every single day, it’s difficult to stand out. And yet, it’s entirely worth the effort. When a dedicated blog can make your site 1,300% more likely to see a positive return on investment, what’s not to love?

All of this and more can be found in the infographic. The state of blogging may seem like a steep hill to climb to see success, but it’s well worth the attempt, and merely by knowing where you stand, you’re already above the average publisher. How will you succeed in 2021?
